GIVING AND STEWARDSHIP
“All things come of thee, O Lord, and of thine own have we given thee.”
- The Book of Common Prayer, 1928
Why Give?
Stewardship is taking care of that which has been entrusted to us. St. Matthew's has been a worshipping community in Charleston for over 130 years. By sharing our time and talents, along with our financial resources, we ensure that St. Matthew's continues to do the work of God for the people of God for generations to come.
And we remember, all that we give to God, was God's to begin with. We are merely returning it.
Our financial giving is a reflection of our values and priorities. It was our Lord who said, "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." - Matthew 6:21

Set up a Pledge
Pledging helps St. Matthew's plan effectively for our financial year. In the same way that you set a budget, or any company sets a budget, a parish sets a budget based on anticipated income. Your pledge helps us accurately plan.
While pledges are helpful for our planning, it is important to note they are not contracts. Your pledge is made in faith, and if your circumstances change mid-year, you can decrease or increase your pledge, as needed.
Memorial Gifts and Flower Contributions
Gifts may be made in memory of a departed loved one. These can be designated for special purposes, or undesignated gifts are usually used to purchase items for sacramental or worship, like vestments or processional appointments.
Gifts towards altar flowers may be given in memory of a loved one or in celebration or thanksgiving for a loved one or a special occasion. Altar flower gifts are recognized in the service leaflet on the Sunday of their placement.
